2013 Soda Bottle Derby

Last updated 5/26/13.

Blast something into near Earth orbit! Be part of the 2013 Soda Bottle Rocket Derby.
This year's Derby will occur Saturday, 1 June at 44983 Knoll Square (GWU Campus), Sterling VA, 20147 at 9:00am. We will get a 2 hour block of time to assemble and launch. It takes about 20 minutes to assemble the rocket, and all materials except the 20oz bottle are provided when you arrive.

Who can attend: This event is open to all Cub Scouts, including new Tigers (Kindergarten aged Scouts who just registered and will be Tigers the next year) and siblings/friends. This activity counts towards the Summertime Activity Pin!
Cost: $8 per participant, to be paid at the event. This covers the cost for all of the materials needed to build the rockets. This year we will be asking all Scouts to bring their own, empty 20-oz soda bottle (the cap is not needed) to use for the rocket engine (water bottles cannot be used because they have different fittings for the cap and will not form an airtight fit on the launcher - Pepsi bottles seem to work best). Bottles should easily fit and slide on a 3/4 inch PVC pipe. We will have some spare bottles for those that forget, have the wrong size, or have bad fitting bottles.
Our Pack event coordinator for this event is Joe Marceau.
