Started in 1988, the Scouting for Food service project is one of Scouting’s most important “Good Turns” for the community. The Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts of the National Capital Area Council (NCAC) are responding to the ever increasing demand for basic needs assistance by collecting and delivering nonperishable food items to area food banks and feeding programs.

Pack 1483 serves the Broadlands neighborhoods north of Waxpool Road. Our Scouting for Food collection area contains approximately 3500 apartments, townhomes, and single family homes.

Pack 1483 yearly collects over 5,000 lbs of food and delivers it all to the LINK program of Sterling, VA. LINK is an emergency support organization providing donated food and financial assistance to qualified people in need in and near the Herndon, Sterling, and Ashburn communities of Northern Virginia. Our collections are small but impactful, our pack contributes part of the approximately 80,000 lbs of food collected and delivered by all of Goose Creek District scouts across Loudoun County.

We also provide nearly 2,000 lbs to Backpack Buddies. Backpack Buddies is a program providing six weekend

meals to hungry children from local elementary schools. In years past, our donation was enough food to prepare 75 meal boxes to feed families over the Thanksgiving Holiday and three weeks of weekend meal packages for over 200 children. The remaining pounds of food are sent to LINK to provide holiday meals. Our continued efforts this season will feed hundreds of families this holiday season and we should be really proud.

We want to pass along a huge THANK YOU to our Broadlands & Ashburn communities for your generosity and for being so willing to help those in need right in our own backyards!
